Coilover Valving & Spring Rate Telemetry

Analyzing digressive vs. linear valving profiles for optimal tire contact patch during high-G track cornering and overland articulation.

Auto Performance Suspension
FIG 1: SUSPENSION KINEMATICS

The Valving Curve

Off-the-shelf suspension kits often feature progressive valving, which provides a comfortable street ride but becomes unpredictable at the limit. For track applications and heavy overland rigs, digressive valving offers stiff low-speed damping (reducing body roll during corner entry) while blowing off during high-speed shaft movements (like hitting a curb or washboard dirt roads).

Spring Rate Selection

A high-quality damper is useless if paired with the wrong spring rate. Spring rates must be calculated based on the vehicle's unsprung weight, motion ratio, and intended use case.
